The American franchise of fitness centers, Planet Fitness, is extending its legacy around the World. It started opening centers in 2014 in Canada and yesterday it landed in the Dominican Republic’s capital, Santo Domingo.
This new Planet Fitness club is located in the Silver Sun Gallery Mall in Santo Domingo and it’s the second international expansion the Company does. Planet Fitness announced that a second Santo Domingo Club is planned for the end of 2016. The new Santo Domingo club it’s owned and operated by franchisees Rick and Kim Sciacca and their partner Glenn Dowler. The Sciaccas were the ones in charge to bring the Planet Fitness brand to Puerto Rico in 2011 and they now operate eight locations there.
Chris Rondeau, chief executive officer of Planet Fitness, said about the Sciaccas that “working with our experienced franchise partners, we look forward to building on the success we have achieved in the U.S., Puerto Rico, and Canada and providing a judgement free, high-quality fitness experience that is affordable for everyone.”
“We are excited to bring the Planet Fitness experience to the Santo Domingo community with the opening of our first club in the Dominican Republic”, said Ronceau in a statement. And he explained that “this international expansion is a testament to our strategy of capitalizing on new market opportunities where we believe that our innovative health club concept will be well-received; in addition to continuing to build-out existing markets”.
According to the Company, the new Santo Domingo Planet Fitness gym is 22,000 sq. ft. and is complete with brand name cardio and strength equipment, circuit training, fully equipped locker rooms with day lockers and showers, numerous flat screen televisions, and unlimited small group fitness instruction by certified trainers that is included in every membership.
