Sun tan: 3 keys to keep it in winter

Getting a sun tan this summer wasn’t easy and you are not willing to let it disappear this winter and have a pale and unflattering skin tone instead. And you are right! We reveal what are the three keys that will help you keep your summer sun tanned skin even if it’s raining cats and dogs outside.

First, you have to keep in mind that taking care of your skin during the sunbathing is essential in order not to harm it and try to mantain the sun tan more than two days. That’s why, if you are stretching on your summer and you still are at the beach, don’t forget to wear sunscreen before exposing your skin to the sun and put moisturing lotion afterwards.

For those who just came back from the holidays and are starting the routine again, we give you the clues so you can keep your sun tan the rest of the year:

Exfoliation natural mixture

Sugar and oil mixture

Exfoliating your skin helps to preserve your sun tan.

The exfoliation eliminates the dead cells of your skin that make it non uniform, it tones the skin, and gives softness and brightness. Although,  every excess becomes a vice, and exfoliating your skin too much can reduce your sun tan. Do it just once a week, both face and body, and use soft products, keep in mind that your skin will be more sensitive because of the sun exposure. It is not advisable either to clean and rinse out your skin with hot water, take fresh or warm showers. You can make your own exfoliation treatment at home with natural products, here are some simple tips:

  • Mix a smashed banana with granulated sugar until you get a viscous texture, then you can rub it on your body. Use for the face only the banana without mixing it with sugar. When you are done, rinse it out with warm water.
  • Mixing thick sugar with oil is an other easy and fast way to exfoliate. Once you have the mixture proceed the same way and rub it on your body, then rinse it out with warm water.
Moisturizing is essential.

Both skin and body. Put lotion and drink a lot of water. Milk lotion or moisturiser are your friends and it’s important that you apply them on your skin after taking a shower and to mantain the sun tan. If you don’t like lotions you can use shower oil or shower gel with moisturiser while you are showering. Moisturising your skin is essential after exposing it to the sun because it soothes and reestructures the epidermis, and it keeps it smooth and bright. It is also important to drink a lot of water in order to moisturise your skin from the inside to give it elasticity and hydrate your body, that will help the sun tan.

Take care of your diet.

As everybody knows, carrots are the most helpful food to maintain the sun tan because of its high beta-carotene content which stimulates the skin pigmentation. Tomatoes and apricots for example are also very rich in beta-carotene. But, in general, every fruit and vegetable is ideal for keeping your tanned skin. The vitamin E, the zinc and the vitamin C of this food help rejuvenate the skin and gives softness, they also avoid dehydration. That is why it is important to eat food that contains high levels of water, like watermelon, melon or cucumber, in order to keep the sun tan. Artichokes, aubergines, celery, broccoli and spinach have a lot of zinc and vitamin E, so it is important to add them to our diet.
